If you’ve just arrived via ferry on St. John, you’ll pass the central hub of taxis in Cruz Bay. While there are several options for taxis, the most popular is the converted taxi trucks. They have benches that can comfortably fit 4 or 5 people per bench, with a total of about 20 passengers. The trucks are not metered, prices are per person, per destination.

Taxis are almost always available at the ferry dock in Cruz Bay (during regular ferry schedule hours) and also at hotels. They frequently wait for passengers at the taxi stand area at Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay.
Although rates are standardized it is recommended that you speak to the driver and agree to your total rate (for you, your group, and your luggage) before boarding the taxi.
Many taxis are multi-destination and some can carry up to 26 passengers; drivers will often wait to fill their vehicle before departing (particularly from the ferry dock and popular beach locations like Trunk Bay and Cinnamon Bay).
Off-season – The last scheduled taxi leaves from Maho at 5:00 PM. Meaning, if you’re at another beach, be on the road by 4:30 PM to flag down the last taxi. You will be stranded if you don’t make other plans, or call the taxi hotline above.
